Child & After-School Care

NEW! REID & HERBERG MIDDLE SCHOOl Program
(REGisTER by sEPT. 1)

Beginning Sept. 6 through June, we're proud to announce that we will provide a full week of after-school programs for Reid and Herberg Middle School students! Provided with a grant from WalMart, the purpose of this program is to provide a safe and active program for students. The program will be Monday through Friday after school until 5 p.m. A healthy snack, homework assistance and physical activities, such as sports and fitness, will be provided. Each day, students will participate in a game or activity. Two groups for two different activities or games are available each day. Registration is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The program is not available on half days, school vacation days or snow days. Cost: $15 per week. (That is an average of $3 per day.) To view our flyer, click here. ACCREDITED CHILDCARE

The Pittsfield Family YMCA received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in January 2010. NAEYC is a national, voluntary accreditation system that sets high standards for early childhood education programs. Click here to read our press release on this prestigious accreditation.

Childcare programs at the Pittsfield Family YMCA consist of five components, all licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care.

The Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and Pre-Kindergarten programs are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The program operates from 6:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, year round.  Snack is provided in the morning and afternoon. Full-time and half-time slots are available, with a two-day minimum requirement.

Infant Program

A brand new infant room was created in October 2009 for our youngest and most treasured little ones. This is an environment that is designed for babies between the ages of 12 to 15 months old and is licensed for 7 infants with 2 trained childcare providers. The room posesses a lovely arrangement of childhood toys, assessories, as well as 7 classical cribs.

Toddler Program

The YMCA's toddler program is available for children from the age of 16 months to 2 years and nine months. This space is available for up to 18 toddlers and staffed with five qualified teachers.

Preschool Program

The Preschool Program has two classrooms. Transitional Classroom who are 2 years nine months to 3 years old. Children in this room are in the process of toilet training. The space is licensed for 12 children with a staff of 2 teachers. The 3-year-old classroom is designed for children to learn through hands on civilities.

Preschool Children take part in weekly half hour swimming lessons as part of their tuition.

Pre-Kindergarten Program

The Pre-Kindergarten Program is licensed for 23 children with a staff of 2 teachers. This program is designed for children prior to the year they enter kindergarten. The room is designed for a variety of interest centers. Emphasis is put on kindergarten readiness skills. The curriculum emphasizes pre-reading, pre-writing, and pre-math.

Before- and After-School Care Program

Our before- and after-school care program operates from 7-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. at our satellite schools, and 6:30-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. at the YMCA downtown location. Registration is for the school year, September through June and must be renewed each year.

The four satellite programs are Allendale, Crosby, Egremont, and Williams. Children who attend the downtown program are taken by bus to and from area community schools. Seating on the bus is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Care is available for half days, snow days and school vacations. Snow days and school vacations are held at the downtown location only. Children must pre-register to attend the program.

Babysitting/Child Watch

We would love to bring our babysitting services back to the YMCA. The YMCA hopes to be able to make this possible within the next month as long as we have a need for it. Please take the time to complete our short survey and voice your opinion on it.
